Yola Logins disabled for a bug-fix

Apology time!

When we released yolasite.com earlier today, an obscure but rather nasty bug made it's way into the code.

If you have a top level domain, and you publish to a yolasite.com subdomain, your top level domain will redirect to your subdomain. Clearly this is incorrect. The subdomain should redirect to the top level domain.

We are very sorry about this. The code looked good but we seem to have missed a step.

We have disabled logins while we fix this. Hope to have everything back to normal soon.

Jeff: you will be able to proceed with making your own site as soon as logins are restored. For more information, see my answer to the same question on a different thread: http://getsatisfaction.com/yola/topic...

Just an update on this situation:

The engineers have been combing through lines of code and have isolated the problem. They have a plan to fix it which they are implementing right now.

We hope to have everything back to normal soon, although we will want to do some careful testing before we restore access.

Thank you so much for your patience with us on this!

There is absolutely no risk of losing any site data. The fix is just to make sure that all the URLs redirect correctly, and doesn't affect the content on your site in any way.

Further update:

Logins to the Yola site builder have been restored, so you can log in and work on your sites.

However, for now publishing is still disabled as we still have some work to do on the bug. Please bear with us on this.

Thanks again!

Hi David,

I can tell you that we are taking this seriously. I know that the engineers are working as hard and as fast as they can. Unfortunately we don't have a time frame for you. This thread http://getsatisfaction.com/yola/topic... will have updates.

Just an update: we are making significant progress on the bug fix, but we are still testing it against a number of scenarios.

Publishing will be disabled for a while longer. We realize that this situation is trying everyone's patience and we will try to move as quickly as we can and keep you all informed as we progress to fully restored functionality.

I would just like to add from my own experience....I have used major pay hosting services in the past....This sort of thing happens to those services also from time to time...The difference is right now if I was using one of the other services I would have had my telephone glued to my ear for the past 30 minutes only to hear a recording telling me I am 500th on que and have an approximate wait time of 30 more minutes.

Good news!

Yola publishing has now been restored. You can go ahead and publish or update your sites. As always, while we have done our very best to ensure that everything is in order, we will be continuing to monitor the situation very closely for some time to come.

If you still get the message that publishing is disabled, please refresh your browser or clear your cache. After doing this, if there are any issues with the publishing of your sites, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Thank you all for your tremendous patience and understanding during this long and difficult problem. We take full responsibility for the error that lead to this and will take it all as a lesson for how we can do better in future.

We are very fortunate to have such wonderfully supportive customers!

@Alex: unfortunately this is caused by the way you wrote your code for your navigation. Because you are not using an automatically generated menu, and you put your full page URL into each link instead of just /index etc. So you need to go and edit the menu code to put in your new yolasite subdomain. I am very sorry about this. Having custom code like this on your site is one of the scenarios for changing subdomains that we could do nothing about from our side.

Sorry Alex, lost you there? What you have to do to correct the problem is to go to each of your menu included pages and edit each of the menu items.
replace the "synthasite" with the word "yola" for the menu items.

The easiest way in the builder and FF is Ctrl-F and type in synthasite in the search box that appears. It will find the next occurrence of synthasite. type yola as a replacement of synthasite. Before you go to the next synthasite copy "yola" into your clipboard. Now continue and simply highlight and paste.. that's the quickest way I can think of.

So, if the yolasite is not yet operable, we should be temporarily aloud to go back to the synthasite until it is fixed. And while your in there, try to make it possible for a page preview before save too!

yolasite is now functional. If it is not for you, please tell us.

We will not be attempting to create new features right now as we kind of have our hands full ;) But will take note of this request when the dust settles.

Hi Don,
I'm sorry you are having this problem. Logins have been enabled so the problem is due to something else.

1. Clear your browser's cache. This link has more information: Clear your browser's cache.

2. Check your privacy settings. You must accept cookies from Yola. Please click on this link to find instructions for accepting cookies with your browser: Accept cookies.

3. Check that your browser is set to enable Javascript. This link has more information on how to check: Enable Javascript.

4. Try loading the site in a different browser (eg. Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer). We would suggest using the Firefox browser as this browser seems to work best in the Yola environment. It is a free download if you would like to give it a try: Download Firefox.

If none of these suggestions solves your problem, please let me know.
