Yola Logins Disabled for Maintenance: Update

First of all I want to say a huge thank you to every one who has been so supportive and patient with us up till now. Yola recognizes that the lengthy, unexpected interruption of access to the site builder has been a significant inconvenience to many of you. To those of you who have been patient with us, in spite of this, we thank you. For those of you who have expressed anger and frustration - we fully understand and can only offer our deep regret.

When we first became aware of this problem we were asked to estimate how long access to accounts would be down for. We set an expectation of "Monday, start of business PDT or sometime between 4 and 5PM, GMT. " We have now reached that time. I had hoped to be in a position to give you good news, but I am afraid I have to inform you that we need more time. Our best estimate at this point is Monday evening PDT, although we will finish sooner if we possibly can.

Many of you have requested concrete information about what is going on. We have tried to provide that to the best of our ability. Here is a summary of what we know:

1) This problem was caused by a bug (an error in our code). We made some recent changes and one of these changes had an unanticipated effect on some of our customers' sites.
2) The symptom of the problem was that when customers opened their sites to edit them, they simply saw an error message informing them that there was a problem opening the page and they were unable to edit. This affected a small percentage of our customers' sites, but the longer we allowed people to log in and edit, the more people could potentially have been affected. It is possible that your site is one of these with the error, or if you had been in a position to edit your site today you might have encountered the error.
3) This bug is taking a long time to fix, because it affects individual sites, not simply an aspect of functionality in the site builder. Scripts need to be run to fix the error, and we have to wait for these actions to complete. We can only guess how long it will take by watching the progress, and it is now clear that more time is needed.

This thread now becomes our latest update on the situation and we will add to it as further information becomes available. We are doing all we can to correct the problem caused by our error, and prevent it from happening in future.

erm.. would there be any chance of having FTP access where those with HTML programming knowhow could update their site manually?

i'm not as patient as BNA who could wait another week

i hope the site would be back up and running within the next 24hrs altho i wouldn't mind another 48hrs to have it back fer good rather than another downtime couple of weeks later

Dear Monique
I did watch M*A*S*H last night, contemplating along with the excellence of the acting the fact that 'rule 1 - in war, young men [and young women] die' is still fully operational.
So, when I checked and found that your guys are still working to fix Yola's problems, it seemed a relatively minor matter compared with the issues facing so many people all over.
Incidentally Yola has presented me with a dilemma - I can contribute to Yola by paying to take the Yola bit off the bottom of my sites - but I want to contribute (in the small way that I can afford) to Yola, but I do not want to take the Yola bit off my sites. Many free sites have a facility which allows users to make a donation to support the work - could Yola set that up for users?
Keep up the good work
All the best
Joy
PS I still have a way to go in finding my way around my new MacBook!

I see what you're saying. I will suggest the idea and see what comes of it, but it will be up to the business team to decide :) Once you get used to that MacBook you will never look back!

They will find a cure for AIDS before you guys get up and running again. Good grief what a big "Bug" this was huh? Maybe next time yola should use words like Bear, Yetti, Or Dinosaur. " We are currently experiencing a Dinosaur of a problem. Please expect to be inconvenienced for 6 days." Sounds a little more like the truth to me...just my opinion users so don't go attacking me for my input. Thanks Synthasite

Sorry but I won't let it slide....A flippant reference concerning AIDS and the suffering of millions is way out of line.....Maybe you should think about that and come back to apologize. This isn't an attack this is someone holding you accountable for saying such a horrible thing.

The "need to chill"-people need to chill. No one needs to go around telling
people what they need to do. People are free, and as long as they aren't
being abusive, can express how they feel about something like this, be it good
or bad.

If you're presumably so good at chilling, then just leave the others be.

I've programmed (et al) for 35 years, so I am aware of the position the IT
folks at Synthasite/Yola are facing. When it is over, you guys need to get
a bit of food, a mountain dew or jolt, then go home and get some sleep (with
your pagers nearby).

If you need some help, beep me.

When i went to log-in this morning at 7am GMT i saw the message you all saw.
I also saw some of the negative comments and made some positive comments of my own, like if you cant access your site go away and use the time in a positive way and brainstorm new ideas for your site. If at least one person saw the light and did that then i am very happy. I have been waiting all day to post the news on my site http://www.newagenewsfirst.com. But in doing so have gone away for the day away from my pc and the effect of that is that i have had a eureka moment and thought of an exciting new page for my site. I have returned at 8.p.m GMT and am resigned to the fact that i shall not be posting anything during the U.K day.
But so what? i shall use the time between now and when i go to bed to develop my eureka idea with more research on the net. Safe in the knowledge that our caring customer support have been open and up front as to the problems they have encountered and have done their utmost to keep us informed. This problem will be solved in time. It is not the end of the world and negative comments will not change a thing. So if you are in a negative frame of mind about all of this i suggest you start have inner self-talk like: "How can i turn this downtime to my advantage," Just ask yourself this question you might be surprised at the change in your emotions and you might just find a creative genius in yourself. Keep smiling!!!!
