Yola Online Store using Ecwid

I've been gone a few months and see Yola now offers an Online Store as a paid add on. I know some Yola sites used Ecwid in the past for their shopping cart.

I'm curious what the difference is between incorporating it on your own as others have done and going with the new Yola Online Store. It sounds like we still have to set up our products, shipping, etc. on Ecwid, so how is the Yola Online Store different? Is it simply ease of use by having the widget ready to go or what?

Hi Jean

I sent you a comprehensive response to your support ticket asking the same question yesterday. Thanks for also posting here as I am sure many people will be wondering the same. Re-posting my response to your email for everyone's reference:

"We are aware that Ecwid offer a free version of their online store. However, Ecwid offers three different plans: Free, Silver and Custom. The Yola Online Store is the Custom version. The Ecwid free option excludes many of the advanced features that the Yola Online Store offers. For example, the Ecwid Free package does not offer discount coupons, stock control for options, protected e-goods download links and more. For a visual comparison of the features included in each plan, visit Ecwid's "Compare Plans" page: http://www.ecwid.com/compare-plans.html

The Yola Online store offers the full set of features. By integrating Ecwid's online store into My Yola and the Sitebuilder, we've made it easy for you to manage your store. For example you can make changes in My Yola and apply the store to any page on your site or any site in your account simply by dragging and dropping as opposed to having to do this manually.

We feel that the cost of the Yola Online Store is extremely reasonable considering the powerful features you have access to. In addition to this the cost of the Yola Online Store is substantially lower than than Silver or Custom plans offered by Ecwid, thanks to our special partnership agreement with them."

Really great to hear that there are some users who were already using Ecwid to integrate their store manually. Hopefully this addition will make it much easier and offer better value for money!

Hi Jean,

The value for money is definitely there for those with Yola Bronze or Silver plans. Those on the Free plan it would be cheaper to use the direct product either Ecwid Silver or Free, depending on product numbers.

As far as setting up the store the Yola process is minimally easier but thereafter the product is the same. (GUI versus a code copy and paste). There is a feature missing on the Yola store that I hope can be corrected and that is the customer view. With the Ecwid direct product this can be varied between the three view styles but with Yola the customer can't make that change, it must be determined by the site owner.

Thanks for the replies. Monique, I didn't get the email from support which is why I posted the question here. It's possible the email is lost in the nether world, so I'm glad you responded here.

I have Yola Silver and am happy to hear Yola has worked out a partnership with Ecwid. It seems many have been looking for a way to incorporate a shopping cart and you've provided it for us. Thanks to all on the Yola and Ecwid teams.

Thanks too, Gop for your post. I am not concerned with the customer being able to change the view styles, so it's not a problem. Hopefully that can be worked out for those who want it.

a side note/question: Gop are you part of the Yola or Ecwid team? I don't remember you being a member here a few months back, but you seem very knowledgeable about both Yola and Ecwid. Glad you're here.

Thanks Jean. I am also glad you posted here. Going to run some tests on our support software to see if there is anything wrong on our end. Always concerned to hear that someone didn't receive one of our support responses. I guess that is why having multiple channels of communication is a good idea! Great to have you back in our forum and good luck with your Online Store! Would love to see the result if you don't mind sharing it. So far the feature is proving extremely popular so we are also very excited about this partnership.

Can we still use the Ecwid store for free on the yola platform without paying yola for the custom part ?

Hello Malcolm,

Ecwid have recently limited their free plan to 10 products so in effect it isn't a functioning store but really a test facility. You can however run this on the Yola platform to see if you wish.
