Yola Pro Package Update - Message from the CEO

I want to thank all our users and customers for all the input relating to the launch of our recent "Pro" package. Your feedback is very valuable to us. As a result of all the interactions and feedback from our users, we're considering making some changes to our offering to ensure that everyone sees the huge value in what Yola is doing. Thanks for all the productive & constructive comments.

We are a small company and are very passionate about our product and our users, so it's important that we offer a paid package to meet the needs of a certain portion of our userbase in order to ensure that we can offer a free package to those who cannot afford to pay for it.

Right now, we're in the process of gathering data and analyzing it. Once we complete this, we will be in a better position to understand what your needs are and customize our Pro package to suit the needs of our paying customers, without significantly reducing the value of our free package. In order to maintain a free service for everyone, we do need a small portion of our users to pay for our premium packages to ensure that it's financially viable.

We really value our community and trust that you will understand that as a startup company, we need to experiment to figure out what works and eventually come up with a win-win solution.

So, in the interim, please be patient as we deliberate - we are working around the clock to understand your needs better so please keep sending us feedback!

Regards
Vinny Lingham

This is what is refreshing about YOLA and those who run her... Innovate, engage and then Listen.

I can't wait to see what is to come from your reflection...

My 2 cents is: the big issue is the limit on the amount of sites, once users get an understanding of how big 1GB actually is, this is not an issue.

Your going to get numerous people wanting more than 5 sites in 1 account so you will just get the situation where people have more than 1 account.

Perhaps keep the account space limits but with the possiblity of unlimited sites.

Lee.

The fact that some people have the audacity to think that they have the god given right to own a PC, have an internet connection, have free services and then, are allowed to complain about it, really peeves me off. There are a bunch of damn ungrateful spoilt brats in this forum who don't realise what they have here.
In this country, there are people that can't even afford a PC let alone internet.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth... If you are unhappy about the excellent service that you get from Yola and the super helpfull staff, then go somewhere else.
Go pay for a crappy unintuitive sitebuilder and bad service. Catch a wake up.

My average internet usage account from my local service provider is about $135-00 per month and I've had bills as high as $360-00. That's per month, and for a service that's more than likely slower than most user's connections. I actually feel guilty for what I get for FREE from Yola because I'm so used to paying for bad service.

I still can't understand how Yola makes money? If Yola were my company I would, cap the free option at 250 Meg (that's about 2000 web pages) and then only allow one site per account. Then charge $10-00/year per site thereafter. That's virtually for free anyway..... and I would also include a few "donate" buttons.
That's my freaking 2 cents.....

Hi smithy, Yola would like to understand more about our customers' needs. What were your plans for your site that would no longer work with the 5 site limit? We appreciate your input.

i have got 4 sites on the move.

Site 1 i need about 30+ sites,
Site 2 which is going up all the time,
Site 3 i will need about 100+
Site 4 need about 20+
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Site 1: http://time-to-chat.yolasite.com
Site 2: http://wordsearches.yolasite.com
Site 3: http://colouringpictures.yolasite.com
Site 4: http://html-help.yolasite.com
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Site 1: i was also hoping to add 5 other sites which will be in other languages. dutch, polish, french, german, spinash.

site 2: it is a wordsearch that i make on the computer and adding 10 more soon.

Site 3: i am doing research on the internet to find some colouring pictures (Childrens colouring pictures)

Site 4: not too bad of have loads of sites cos i can have it as .php so that is not to bad, but with the other 3 sites well........ i need to create about 10 account on yola and i don't think that yola's servers will cope with it with signing up with about 5 sites and for site 3 i will be adding about 50 on later so i will have to create 10 account with10 e-mails. i really don't want to be over runned with yola account and with e-mails. all i want is to be able to create all the sites for Site 3 on 1 account.

@smithy and Lee: thanks for the focused and helpful feedback about the site limit. We will certainly be discussing and thoroughly considering the needs of customers who require more than 5 sites, and more than 25 sites and see what solutions we can find for them.

@Boomer: thanks for understanding that Yola needs to create a business in order to sustain it's free service and that this involves offering premium features and packages that carry a fee.

you should make pro a downloadable software so we don't need internet connection to create the site, only to publish changes. Some internet connections can be slow or not working which puts site publishers out of work or make it slow during that time. Not that I'm prepared to purchase the pro package, but lately my internet's been slowing down and I know for some it would be convenient to be able to create their site without needing the internet.

Thanks Vinny.

You might just want to watch out though. If you start making changes to the pro package now after some people have already purchased, I'm sure they would be quite annoyed that something they paid for was taken out of the package and given for free, eg. Website Limits.

Maybe we could have a contest on how (If We Own Yola) we'd set up the company for things & features we'd like.

The Yola people could offer a prize of some sort (Grand Price 1{one} Year Free Super Yola Site) & Yola would have access to all the features one would like to have in a "Super Yola Site"

Just think everyone would be able to see all the different ideas and which ideas would be most popular. Yola could place the result in a percentage-type chart so we could see where our ideas would place when compared to others.

Even different level of site building such as

1-5 site free with 250 mg
6-25 with some added feature & larger mg storage
26-100 Mid-Range site builder
101 & over Yola Super Site Builder with all New Feature added FREE

No matter what Yola does some-one will always have a better ideal, costs difference, or point of view.

I'm most GRATEFUL & THANKFUL for Yola, Community, & all the different ideas & help from something that started Free Only to a pick & choose. Thank for reading.

Forgive my last rantings, I was having a bad day at work with my own ungratefull customers ;-)

I like Papa's idea of different levels of accounts. Maybe the gap between the FREE and PRO accounts is to big. Create more in between levels.

You could still fix the account size but divide it into more sites. e.g.
5 sites @ 1024KB, 10 sites @ 521KB or 20 sites @ 256KB
Who knows, maybe it turns into more sales of premium features for you guys.
I'm sure you've thought of this already though...

I have not been using Yola for very long and i am Very unbelievably satisfied with all that is currently offered to Free customers I am planning to upgrade my site,as i want a more professional domain, but i would like to add that i would love to see an option where a customer could possibly buy certain features that they need without having to pay for all of the other features that they might not need. For example, I Currently have plenty of space for pictures and files and things of that sort, so that would not be something i wanted to pay extra for. Just a thought, I hope it helps in decision making!

That's a cool idea Savannah,

It would great if you could make a custom package, eg. A list of all the features and then you just select the ones you want to include, fixed price for all features though slightly cheaper if you just upgrade to the full pro package.

I replied to your email to Support a short while ago - you are nowhere near the limit on your site - you are using approximately 14mb of 1gb (or 1024mb) - around 2%. We have always had a 15mb limit on individual file uploads to Yola, we've increased this size for people who upgrade to Yola Pro. If you are experiencing problems uploading a file within that limit, I've asked you to send me more details so that we can help you to find out what is going wrong.

The 15 MB for the free account is not new. The 100 MB for the Pro account is new since the Pro account itself is new.

-Hope this clears it up

The only problem I have with the Yola Pro is there being a limit on the number of sites. I currently have 10 sites, and now I can't make anymore. I don't want to pay for Yola Pro.
I think the limit should b completely removed.

First and foremost, I love yola and want to support yola. I truly want to upgrade to your pro package, but please give me a few more reasons to do so. I want to see more premium designs, better premium designs, and less downtime. I would like to have unlimited websites and the ability to have more than 1 premium design on those websites.

I understand there are many different levels of need out there, so I can only articulate my own. The bottom line is I will support you financially no matter what you come up with, but I would still like you to be competitive with some of the other big premium template hosting services. james
