Yola renewal policies – fairness?

Why does yola think it's fair to send out renewal notices 30 days before expiry of accounts, then upon payment of said renewal, effectively start the annual account immediately, effectively chopping one month off from the term I'm still in and have already paid for.

Hi Bela,

I presume this is a bad bit of programming that hasn't been picked up by their QC program. I'm sure they will fix this for you.

I'm sure they'll fix it, but it still surprises me.

If my account is paid up till May 9th, and I renew April 9th, the day they send out the 30 day notice email, I just expected the renewal to be effective for 12 months starting May 9th.

I'll ping support for clarification.

Hello bela

What made you think we had let the new subcription period start immediately? Was it maybe misunderstandable wording in our e-mails or on the payment screen?

I have checked your Yola account and I can see that your Bronze package has been renewed. In our system it says that it will expire on 9 May 2013 which is exactly one year from 9 May 2012.

Your domain, however, has not been renewed and will expire on 9 May 2012. Please remember that hosting package and domain are now separate items with Yola and must be renewed separately. You can renew your domain on your My Yola dashboard as well. Just click on Domains, and you will be able to renew your domain.

If you have any questions on this, please let us know.

Hi Stefan, thanks for your reply.

That's good news. I didn't check the "Yola account" tab details.

But I'll explain why I was confused / mislead.

The email invoice I received was written as follows (formatting is gone sorry):

Thank you for your order from Yola.

Hello Bela XXXX,

Your transaction number is XXXXXXX

Description Term Price Next Billing Date

Yola Bronze account upgrade with:

Expanded storage (2GB/site)
Create and publish up to 5 websites
Telephone support for 30 days
Premium quality hosting
Domain pointing
Yola footer removed from all pages

Annually C$15.95 CAD (annually) 9th April 2013
Total Cost C$15.95 CAD

I misunderstood the Next Billing date of Apr 9, 2013 to mean the new expiry date. In reality I guess Apr 9, 2013 will be the 30 day notification date for my next renewal.

So now I know that is not the expiry date.

Thanks again,
Bela

Hello Bela

Now I see. Your hosting package is currently on auto-renewal, so you won't need a reminder next year. On 9 April 2013 your package will be automatically renewed by another year for your convenience, so the next billing date is the day when you will be billed next for the following subscription period.

If you have any questions on that, please let us know. Thank you for using Yola, and we hope you'll enjoy the great benefits of your hosting package.
