Yola: Routine Maintenance

More routine maintenance today!

Yola is preparing for a major feature release which is planned for tomorrow (25 July) As a result there will be some downtime on the site builder both today and tomorrow. Published sites will not be affected by this.

We need to do some preparation today for tomorrow's release. We will be disabling logins for several hours while we do this. We apologize to anyone who was hoping to edit their sites, but trust that this temporary inconvenience will be to everyone's advantage.

Please follow this thread for for the latest updates, and tune in on Sunday or Monday to see what we have added!

Logins are currently disabled. If you were already logged in at the time that we disabled logins, you will still have access to the site builder. However, my advise is to save your work and log out until further notice.

Thanks - and sorry for the sudden interrruption!

That's fine. As long as you have saved your work, you can just close the tab or window and you will be logged out automatically.

I was editing my site and it went dead!! Thought I'd done something wrong, until I read your note. There was nothing on the front page that mentioned, site maintenance, unless I missed it! I just hope I havent lost too much! I'll check back on Sunday.

Okay, thanx for replying! I seem to have missed out the 'c' from my surname!! It should be Pearce not Peare!!! Is there anyway you can rectify this at all?
Developing a WS is a new experience for me, so I'm a bit frustrated at not being to edit my site, although I do understand that you have to maintain your Site.

If you scroll to the top of the page, click on the drop down arrow next to the words: "Welcome, Steve". Then click on the link to your dashboard and then click "account settings" You will see an option to change your name there. Sorry that your first experience with building a website was negatively affected by our maintenance. I promise it is not normally like this, and we will be here to help you when you need us!

Hi Steve

You just need to go to the top of this forum, click on the arrow beside your name. Then go to account settings and make the changes to your name.

Please look at the screenshot below: (sorry it's so small)

I'm sorry that you feel this way tia. May I ask why? Yola will be coming out with new features that I'm sure that you will appreciate having. Is there something in particular that we can assist you with?

Yola is excellent, and I have no complaints. I just have a website that has to be updated several times a day, including right now. Is there a ball park time that you can give to when we will be able to update our sites. Thanks for the help, and keep up the good work.

Hi Guys

Sorry this one has been a bit lengthy. Big preparations for tomorrow's release.

However, we should have you all back up and running in about 10 minutes!

Thanks for your extraordinary patience once again!

Published sites will not be affected tomorrow, unless something strange and totally unforseen happens. However, we have no reason whatsoever to believe that they will be down while we release the new version of the site builder.

For those who like to update on a regular basis... please note that tomorrow the site builder will be down again to implement the new features as Monique said "As a result there will be some downtime on the site builder both today and tomorrow. "

So, I would encourage you to make preparations for that. Perhaps you can give your visitors a notice saying that "due to upgrades, new content will be added tomorrow". Or something like that! I'm not very good with words! =P

Littleus: Great advice thank you!

This is what is going to happen from here:

We have made preparations to roll out a new version of the site builder tomorrow that will include some additional features which will give you more options to personalize your style.

We will be doing some final testing today, and if everything looks good, we will have another period of downtime tomorrow after which the new features will be available. We will let you know what they are, of course :)

DISCLAIMER: If we discover any bugs in our last few hours of testing, there could be a delay to the release. We do not anticipate this at this late stage, and if there is a delay I will let you know as soon as I know!

I will also do a post warning you of when logins will be disabled as soon as I have that information.

I would never have thought I could design a website - but i've desgined two through you - delighted with it! If you can do better, that's great! Will there be a way of recording visits to the sites with the update?

Hi Maxine

If you'd like to record visits.. there are a few ways of accomplishing this.

You could add a simple hit counter which records the number of visitors who come to your site. Here are some free counters that may work for you:
http://www.amazingcounters.com/
http://www.millionhitcounters.com/
http://www.simplehitcounter.com/

You would need to drag an HTML widget over and then paste in the code.

If you want some stat reports that go along with your counter, here's one that works well:
http://www.statcounter.com/free_hit_c...

You can also add Google Analytics which will not show a counter on your website, but will track the number of visitors to your site and give you that information. Yola has a great tutorial on this: http://www.yola.com/tutorials/analytics

Please let us know if you need further clarification. We'll be happy to help. =)

It's great to hear that you were able to build your own website with Yola! Analytics are not part of this release, but definitely something we want to add in future. In the meantime Littleus has given you some great suggestions for recording your site visits!

Morning Monique, is there a chance that I could lose the work that I've already done? I tried to logon late last night, but I kept getting 'password unknown' at the login.

Sorry to hear this. This is unlikely to be related to yesterday's maintenance. Can you email us at support@yola.com with the name of your site, and the email you used to create your account and we will look into this for you.
