Yola is a great site but why don't they add their own facilities for building on- line slide shows.

Hi Syra,

This is a popular feature request that has been logged for our Product team. While it's not planed for the immediate future, we do see the value in creating our own slideshow widget so it is something we may be able to offer in the future.

I cannot understand why it is not planed for the immediate future when this has been a popular feature request for sometime now.

I am sure it is not beyond the capabilities of your talented Product team .
The value in creating a slide show is that this is what the people who use Yola would like .

I suggest that you stop putting this on the long finger and set the Yola team, that must between them have the collective genius required, the task of adding the YOLA SLIDE SHOW WIDGET.

Hi Syra

It is definitely not beyond the capabilities of our talented development team. We also understand that it is a popular feature request and would be a great addition to our widget toolbox.

The only reason that it is set for the medium to long term is that we have higher priority feature requests and more urgent infrastructure development and platform improvements we need to take care of and we have to make the best decisions we can with the resources at our disposal.

I know that this is not the answer you were hoping for. I also don't know if you intended it, but the tone of your latest reply is quite hurtful and demoralizing to a team that is working as hard as they humanly can to build a best of breed product.

We wish we didn't have to make tough trade-offs and that we could accommodate all feature requests much quicker than we do, but I guess this will always be one of the challenges of software development.

It certainly was not meant to be hurtful in any way .
More light hearted , that is to say tongue in cheek.
I actually think that Yola is the best on-line web builder available and have suggested to many people who have difficulty putting up a web site that Yola is actually extremely user friendly.
You have a wonderful on-line forum and are always prompt in your replies . Accept my sincere apologies for any misunderstanding.
Just that with so many request for a slide show widget to be made available It was hard to understand that this is not available to Yola users.
I accept that you have other priorities and wish you and the Yola team every success in achieving all your goals.

Kind Regards
Syra

PS I recently linked my Yola site to Wix in order to put up a slide show of my portfolios put would actually much prefer to stay with Yola hence my keenness to see a yola slide widget.
I am looking around for other ways of putting up a slide show on my Yola page but have to admit with my limited computer skills I am finding this quite difficult.
Apologies again for any upset
Good wishes to you all from windy Ireland.

Hi Syra

Thanks for understanding where I am coming from. I think this is a fabulous feature request and I really hope we implement it soon. When you posted I discussed the thread directly with the engineer who would be the one to build it, as I am lucky enough that he sits right opposite me in the office! Between you and me, he is just itching to build it but he has a long list of tasks to get to before he would be able to. Many of those tasks, while important, not quite as fun as this one would be!

I just wanted to be sure that everyone understood that the delay was not due to neglect or unwillingness on our part. I understand how frustrating and inexplicable it can appear to people who don't have the benefit of the "inside view" of the software development process, so I was happy to have the opportunity to provide this insight.

Here's the deal: I am going to keep championing this feature request every chance I get. Yola always requests user feedback when deciding what to build next. In the meantime thanks for looking at the workarounds suggested.

I've used Picasa to upload a slide show on a Yola site and it worked well. There are probably several other options out there that are as good or better too.

Zoho Show also works well. I'm only adding this comment because I embedded a Zoho Show in my Yola site less than 5 minutes ago.

Hi Jean & Herb

Thanks for replies. Could you send me the urls for your sites if possible. Would like to take a look at them to see how the slide shows you have uploaded look.

This is my site by the way. www.syralarkin.com
I think it looks a bit of a mess at the moment and needs some serious attention.
I don't think people like jumping from one site to another so I will have to find away of embedding a slide show into the site.

I actually took a look at Picasa before but Zoho is new to me.
I recently downloaded the new version of Picasa but it started to download everything from my computer . I wasn't sure what was happening and became rather alarmed when my computer seriously began to overheat so after switching my computer off and allowing things to cool down a bit. I restarted my computer and sent Picassa straight to the trash. Must be gremlins in the works!.

Zoho Show is actually a presentation manager similar to Microsoft PowerPoint. It is 100% online so nothing is loaded on your computer. It is free.

Here are two examples of Zoho Show embedded in a Yola page. The top one is a simple picture show the bottom one is closer to a PowerPoint presentation.
http://preventingmediocrity.yolasite....

The controls at the bottom can be turned off from a right click menu. They can also be turned off by default in the html code.

Instead of using the yola html widget to embed the code I used the Google widget. This centered the image.

For an example of a Picasa slide show, see http://www.montanacampshopping.com/. I set this site up a couple years ago and it may or may not be up to date. You can however see the slide show on the home page.

Jean I just looked at your site.

If I was ever in Montana I would definitely come and visit your shop . You have some lovely things and I love the displays in your slide show.

Thanks, Syra. It's a local shop--but not mine. I set up the site for the owners who then assumed control of the site.
