Error when I try to publish my site using an external domain

I bought the silver package several days ago and have not been able to publish mysite. My domain name is through godaddy.com and everything is pointed correctly, but whenever I hit publish mysite and go through the steps I get an error message about a problem with my DNS. The worse part is that fact that the technical support are idiots and no matter how many times you call its the same person(s). This is what happens when technical jobs are outsourced to other countries to save money. Now I have to wait 24hrs. for the DNS specialist to get in contact with me. The best part about that is the fact that I won't be able to talk to someone, no not with yola, they would contact me via email. Is this sum bulshit! Did I mention that I'm trying to run a FUCKING business.

Hi houseofbyson

I am the head of customer support at Yola and I would be happy to help. I am sorry to hear that you are having difficulties with your DNS settings. If you are getting an error message then in all likelihood there is either a problem with the way you configured your DNS with GoDaddy or your DNS settings have not fully propogated yet.

I am pleased to hear that you were able to speak with members of our support team even though it is a week end. I would also like to set the record straight. Yola does not outsource support. Although it is more expensive, our call center is based right in our Cape Town office on the same floor as myself and other Yola staff.

I have listened to the call with the lady who assisted you on the phone and I can hear that she did her best to help. I have also reviewed your DNS settings. It looks like you have set up your A records correctly but these can take time to propogate (up to 24 hours). However, I am now able to see your site. If it is still not up for you please let us know.

Have you not heard of civility? You may be "trying to run" a business but don't sound very businesslike or professional in your approach to problems. The attitude and language displayed in your post is uncalled for, in my opinion. We can only imagine how you spoke to the support person on the phone.

As Monique's reply shows, Yola has once again gone above and beyond to resolve your issue. It's another example of repeated efforts by Yola staff to assist their users.

A little patience and politeness goes a long way.

Ok, I bought the Yola silver package Thursday 04/21/2011 and for the last 4 days whenever I try publish my site I would get an error message stating that there is a problem with my DNS. After I complained about this on the community open forum the problem was fixed briefly. Once again my site is not published because of some error with my DNS. So for everyone who had something negative to say about my previous post, understand what's happing first and my frustration level before we comment. Otherwise, mind your business.

Your domain appears to be pointing to 184.72.229.176 which is correct.
Can you confirm the following about your DNS settings:

  • www A(record) 184.72.229.176(address)

  • @ A(record) 184.72.229.176(address)

  • * A(record) 184.72.229.176(address)

Your domain is pointing to Yola, however, when trying to publish a site to it it states its not pointing to Yola. I suspect this could be due to you DNS settings not being all being setup correctly or that not all records have propagated yet.
Try re-publishing your site to your domain, after checking your DNS settings with godaddy.com

Also note that DNS set-up and changes can take between 24-48 hours to propagate through the internet.

Please also check your domain name server addresses

Hi Jeremy,

My DNS setting with godaddy is set correctly. I believe the problem is on Yola's side. Like I stated previously, it worked briefly yesterday after I complained about it but started acting funny again late last night as I was trying to update the contents of my site. I'm well aware that DNS set-up and changes may take up to 48hrs to propagate through the internet but it has now gone past that time frame.
The thing that is most frustrating is that fact that I am unable to promote my site because it doesn't work and I'm finding it very difficult to get this resolved. I chose yola because I was a fan of there web building tools but I had fewer problems with Flavors.me (which is free).

Hi Jeremy,

So far you seemed to be the only person interested in helping to resolve my issues. Do you have any other suggestions that I could try to help resolve my problems? I've been following all of the discussions and it seems that everyone is getting to the bottom of their problems in a timely manner except for me.

Hi houseofbyson,

I have spoken with our technical staff, and it appears that the attempted transfer of your domain to Yola has caused a technical glitch which is preventing you from publishing your site to your domain.

They have fixed this for you, and manually assigned the domain to your site so it is now up and running. Please note that this technical glitch will take a few days to cancel out completely, so if you would like to unpublish and republish your site, please let us know and we can do this manually for you.

Apologies for any inconvenience that this may have caused, and thanks for your understanding as we work on resolving this case. If you have any further questions please let us know.

Thanks,
Jackie

Jackie,

First and foremost I would like to apologies for my use of words and to some of the staff that tried to assist me with my problem. I was just a little frustrated and upset with the timing of everything. I could see that my site is now published and I could now move forward and hopefully become a happy customer.

Regards,

HouseofByson

Hi HouseofByson,

Thank you very much for your last comment, it is appreciated and I will be sure to pass it on to the other staff members who tried to assist with your case.

We understand that these technical issues can be very frustrating (for us too!), so thank you for working through this with us. I am so pleased that even though there is a technical issue we were able to publish your domain successfully!

If Yola can be of any service to you in the future, please let us know and we will gladly assist.

Thanks,
Jackie

Hi Jackie,

One more quick thing. When I get home tonight I'm going to do a few updates. Should I call for you guys to manually unpublish and then republish my site after I complete my updates?

Hi houseofbyson,

Yes please do! If you would like to make changes to your site you don't have to unpublish it. While the site is still published you can make the changes and then hit the green "Publish to the web" button and it will update the changes for you. This means that your site won't go offline and you won't have to unpublish it and then ask us to assign it for you.

I can see that your site was unpublished, so we have reassigned it for you.

I hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Thanks,
Jackie
