Yola will not allow Facebook to pick up thumbnail image when I try to share my page manually, NOR through the Yola Facebook app.

I upgraded my Yola service so I could point a custom domain (colorfulwarriordoula.com) to my yola subdomain (colorfulwarriordoula.yolasite.com) AND get a proper thumbnail post on Facebook, just as I would when posting any other website. However, this is not happening. When I post my site to Facebook, all it registers is the link itself. How can I get a thumbnail when posting my site to Facebook? This is the only reason I upgraded with Yola, as an agent advised the upgrade would fix this particular problem.

Thanks.

Hi Amy

Can you try this:

1) Once you have published your site in Yola, log into your Facebook account.
2) Navigate to the profile page you would like to change.
3) Hover the mouse over the Yola icon labelled "Website" - you will see that it underneath the profile picture on the page.
4) You will notice a pencil icon appear in the top right-hand corner. Click on the pencil.
5) Select "Edit Settings" from the list of options.
6) Click on "Change" next to "Custom Tab Image:" A page will open up, which will allow you to change the picture.

If this doesn't work, please let us know.

Navigate to the Facebook profile page I would like to change? I'm already confused, as this is not my objective. Where do I find the Yola icon in step 3? I have no idea how to follow these instructions.

Hello Amy,

For one Facebook Business page that I am administer for, this is how I changed the thumbnail:

1. Log into your homepage.
2. Under pages on the left, click the Business Page link
3. On the business page, click "Photos" to view & upload new photos. Upload the thumbnail picture here.
4. Once uploaded, click on image and then click the Pencil Icon in the upper right corner. Click "Make Profile Picture for Page"
5. Return to the top of the business page in the Admin Panel, click "Edit Page" and then click "Update Public Info"
6. On the left side menu, click "Profile Picture" and then "Edit Thumbnail". Click check box that says "Scale to Fit".

The selected image will then show for each business link posted.

Hello Dawn,

For a business that I have a web site for, to share links on Facebook: I first created a page on Facebook for that website. Then I go to that page and make a posting on that page with a web site link as part of the posting. The thumbnail image auto shows up with the posting on anyone who has liked my Facebook business page.

To create a Facebook business page:
1. Like another business, return to your home page, click on the link for that business under the "Likes" heading.
2. On the window that opens, on the upper right hand column, click button that says "Create Page".
3. Follow onscreen instructions to create your business page.

After it has been created, you can switch between your personal Facebook page and your Business Facebook page by clicking the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen and then selecting the page. Or, after it has been created, you'll see it listed under "Pages" in the left hand column of your home page.

On your Business Facebook Page, you can upload images and make postings. Directions are above for how to select a Profile image for your Business postings.

Your Business Facebook page can then be used in marketing. Every time you make a posting on your business page, it will then appear (along with the thumbnail image) on anyone's page who has liked your business.

Hello Zach,

Here is a few links for online posts that may answer your question:

Yola limits adding new meta tags so you may be able to hard code the meta tag into the page code. Here is a link that show how to do this, put the code after the header into an html widget:

Hello Zach

There is a way to ensure that you have the desired thumbnail displaying for your website on Facebook. However, to do this, you will need to access your Site Tracking Code area which is only available to Yola Silver or Yola Gold. If you have one of those feature packages, please follow these steps:
  1. Open your website in the Sitebuilder.

  2. Click on the "Site" tab.

  3. Click on "Tracking" to open the tracking section.

  4. Click on the "Site Tracking Code" icon.

  5. In the right-hand side "Header Code" section, paste in this code:
    <meta property="og:image" content="http://yoursite.com/resources/yourthumbnailimage.jpg" />

    Replace:
  6. http://yoursite.com with the URL of your published site.

  7. yourthumbnailimage.jpg with the name of your image file.

  8. Save and make sure you republish your site!

Now, you can go to your Facebook wall and post your URL. The desired thumbnail image should come up.

Please note: According to Facebook, your picture should be at least 200x200 px.

If it still doesn't display, you will need to run it through the Facebook Debugger. Please follow these steps:
  1. Clear cache and cookies of your browser.

  2. Log into your Facebook account.

  3. Click on this link (it must open in the same browser): https://developers.facebook.com/tools...

  4. Enter your URL in the field provided and click on the "Debug" button.

  5. Once done, try to add your URL to your Status box on Facebook. It should now show the desired thumbnail.

I know it's a bit of a mission, but it eventually worked for me with my own Yola website.

I honestly cannot see how you have all missed the point of the question. And some of you are meant to be techies. Please read and read again.. and again. .. good.. now you should have a clue ............... :-)
They are not asking to integrate thumbnail into facebook.

I thinkyou will find that they mean this..
When they post a link onto facebook wall, we get a choice of thumbnail to use with the link like the Yola link here in the picture.
The thumbnail is normally a few of the pictures picked up from the page that the link goes to.

I have had same problem with thumbnail.. Because I pointed many a domain and not purchased direct with yola, then the link to homepage did not pick up any pictures that could be used in the thumbnail on facebook post. . .

It seems to be hit and miss if pictures show up to be used in thumbnail, because I still have no way to solve this on yolas end.
This also applies to the first few sentences on the page that are not always picked up.. Even when I fill in the "meta data" . it still hits and misses.

Hello Billy

Please carefully check if you didn't make any mistakes when you added the code for your second website. The image URL must be 100% exact and is case-sensitive. You should paste the image URL into a browser tab to see if your picture comes up.

Otherwise, Facebook Debugger can give you a hint why it's not working for your second site. If you read the report completely, there will be information that can help you.

Let me know should you keep stuck, and I'll try to investigate as far as I can from my side (Please post your URL again in this case).

Hi Shaun,

The problem I see with your page is you do not have an image added to your homepage: http://focalcarpentrybrighton.co.uk/. Instead you have a slideshow which Facebook is not picking up. If you incorporate adding a picture using the Picture Widget, you should see Facebook pick up that image in preview without having to jump through any other hoops. Can you please give that a try and let us know how it goes for you?

Hi Laura,

No, because I have put thumbnail image information in the code of the site tracker..
So should work from that..

Thanks anyway

Hello Shaun,

Running the FB debugger with your site URL the image shows well. Your meta data "og:image" and associated content is done as directed. It looks as if all is set up as it should be.

Just wondering if there's a delay with FB picking up the image and processing it? FB processing can be lagging by previous reports. It may be worth just checking on it periodically to see if it is scraped in time.

Hi Gop,

When I was doing the facebook debugger it was not showing up.. NOw it is.. Maybe there is a bit time involved in facebook waiting to recognising it.

Thanks

Hello Shaun,

It's frustrating not really having a proven explanation, hoping that if it happens again you can reliably hit it on the head???

you mentioned that it was not showing up when you were going through the debugger, but now it is. Does this mean your FB site is now displaying the thumbnail or just the debugger?
