yolasite.com/resources directory

Am I correct in understanding the file manager saves uploaded files in your /yolasite.com/resources/ directory? I recently created a Banner.gif file and uploaded it. I went into another web site and added this banner using the address http://www.ThaiWx.yolasite.com/resour... and the web site sees it o.k. However now when I'm back in my Yola site the file manager does not show it in the yolasite/resouces directory any longer. I want to make changes to it but can't find it. Any help or suggestions would save the remaining hair I haven't pulled out yet. Regards, Dan

Hi there Dan,
Yes - Your file manager does save your files as .yolasite.com/resources/filename (you can see the file extension at the top of the file manager next to "files" if you click on the file)

Are you now unable to find the file in your file manager of your original site or your new site? If you add the file to your new site using a link it will not be uploaded to the file manager.

Was it originally from your Thaiwx site?

It has to still be in the filemanager because it exsits at this URL http ://www.thaiwx.yolasite.com/resources/Ban... ... which means it is in the thaiwx site file manager.

If your sure its not maybe you could send a screen shot of the surounding files (because its hard to believe its not there and if it is not for sure it may be a bug) :)

Lee and Jeremy, thank you for your replies. I have only one site "http://www.ThaiWx.yolasite.com" that I'm using and I uploaded this Banner.gif file to there. I saw it in the resources directory to confirm the upload. I then went to another web site and in their login/registration process you can add your personal web site and banner URL's. I did and saw the banner there. I went back to my yola site file manger to edit the banner and it is no longer there. I can even add the HTML line for the banner in my site and it shows up. Then go to file manager and don't see it. It's like there's another /resources directory.
I tried using other gif files in the resources directory to use as a test banner on the other web site and they wouldn't show, just the red "x".

... I just tried using the search function in the file manager window. I entered Banner.gif and selected all files to search. Nothing came back. I'm sure it's something really dumb on my part that I'm overlooking and going to feel pretty bad when it's discovered.

OK, the main point here is that it really should be in the thaiwx filemanager becuase its showing at the above URL.

Can you see the file at all in the file manager or it simply is not visible, (i.e. no x or blank image) If you could provide a screen shot of the filemanager around the place where the Banner file should be that would be great.

About the other .gif's that dont show remember that all files on the internet are case sensitive so for example if you used banner.gif instead of Banner.gif it would not show.

Lee, in the file manager there is no "Banner.gif". No red X or empty image etc. I've been trying to add a screen shot to show the directory contents but when I add it to here it shows up as something in HTML? code, not the files. I've created a banner.GIF (case change) file as well as a banner.jpg file to see if the other internet site would see them but it doesn't.
Thanks for your patience and I'll keep trying ways to attach a pic of the directory to show you.

That's alright Lee, you've done enough for me and it's really appreciated. It's not a big issue to lose sleep over and I can work around it. I just wondered if I am doing something wrong or if anyone else has had this happen.
Thanks again for the help and Jeremy too.

Dan,

Now (because lots of files in there are not reachable) i'm wondering if it is becuase you have not hit 'update my site' in a while.

Can you please try to re publish your site so we can test exactly what is wrong - there is a good chance that when you republish the original Banner.gif will disappear and the other banner files will become available.

Let me know when you have done it.

Lee, that is exactly what has happened. I did the update, Banner.gif went away and the other files became reachable again. (as I slap my forehead like a dunce). I have to keep in mind any changes made have to have the site updated before seen in the "outside" world. Please excuse my ignorance and, again, thanks for setting me straight.

I'm glad its fixed,

Your 'ignorance' is 100% excused, you taught me something in this thread, i was under the impression images were reachable once in the file manager, i actually uploaded an image to my site to test the thoery, if i had known that before i would have noticed this was the problem earlier in the post.

You learn something new everyday. :)

Happy site building - Lee.
