Hi jane

It's rough starting a business and even rougher in this current market but it can be done... Things to keep in mind are that age is a hurdle. Sad but true. Your best bet for creating any business right now is your parents or family. They can not only offer much needed wisdom but can help get either loans, grants or seek out venture capital.

Firstly I think you should create a business plan. This will help you with the steps along the way to your dream. Here is a good resource for you in Australia.

Find your local BEC from the list and contact them for advice, rules and regulations for restaurants.

Business Enterprise Centres (BECs)

The Australian Government will provide $42m over 4 years to fund the delivery of low cost small business advisory services through nominated Business Enterprise Centres (BECs) throughout Australia. Thirty six (36) BECs will be supported through this measure.

The funding will enable BECs to expand and strengthen their capacity to provide low cost advisory services to small business; complementing the Government's overall objective to maximise the growth potential, prosperity and sustainability of small business. It aims to improve the business skills of small business operators, intending operators and independent contractors.

Grants & assistance

Grants and other funding programs are available from the federal, state and territory governments and in some cases from local councils. Generally there are no grants available for starting a business. However, there are grants and other assistance available for business activities such as expanding your business, research and development, innovation and exporting.

I wonder then what is stopping your parents from getting a grant for agriculture drought then? They are available yes???

In any case I truly feel for you and wish you the best. Congratulations on the award... I think you should write to the Women in Business Micro-Credit Program and let them know of your desire to start your business and ask for help in finding grants. P.S. use that award in every post to every person... It proves your worth, character and professionalism...

You might try finding a partner first because to try and build a new business yourself is one of the most challenging things to do in a down market. Try placing free online ads in the larger more affluent areas of Australia. Contact your local tv media. Look at their website and search for all the women reporters and if you send enough emails to them maybe one will bite and interview you for a show... Do the same with all the newspapers.

Experience is golden in the restaurant business and one must know how to manage, serve and clean. As an owner you wear all the hats in the business and hold everything together as glue. I feel for you and your situation. Truly I do...

Thanks for your help, is there anyway you could possible give me some publicity through your website?

I listed the Women in Business Micro-Credit Program website above.

About getting on my site I will have to think about that because my sites links are related to a playhouse and website building market and doesn't get much sticky traffic with this recession... You would be better suited on Australian sites and not here in the US.
